Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Butto received an extended look in the Mets' rotation last season and was solid with a 3.64 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 38:23 K:BB over 42 innings. He fared much worse at Triple-A Syracuse (5.93 ERA in 19 starts), which gives some pause for the big-league numbers given the small sample size. The right-hander isn't likely to make the Opening Day rotation in 2024 but could earn a spot in the bullpen with a strong showing in spring training. Read Past Outlooks

Optioned to Triple-A
The Mets optioned Butto to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Butto put his best foot forward this spring in the competition for the final spot in the Mets' rotation, yielding just one run with a 9:2 K:BB over 10 innings. However, the team ultimately decided on Tylor Megill to round out the rotation. Butto will join Syracuse's rotation for now but will still probably be needed to make some starts for the Mets this season.

Jan Levine concludes his column for the season with a look at the remaining schedule while offering potential stash candidates.
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Butto made his big-league debut in August and was rocked for seven runs on nine hits -- including a couple home runs -- over four innings in Philadelphia. That's going to leave a mark for a while, but one poor outing should not overshadow Butto's larger body of work between Double-A and Triple-A in 2022. The right-hander pitched to a 3.56 ERA and 138:44 K:BB in 129 innings across the two highest levels of minor-league baseball last season, establishing himself as a prospect to watch in the Mets organization. He's a fastball-curveball-changeup pitcher with a 10-mph gulf in velocity between the heater and offspeed. The Mets don't need to force the issue, but Butto is on the 40-man roster and will be a candidate for spot starts and cleanup duty as needed.
