2024 Fantasy Outlook
Black has been a top-400 prospect since he was drafted with the 33rd overall pick in 2021 and he fully broke out last year across Double-A and Triple-A. The second baseman turned outfielder turned third baseman reached new heights as a stolen-base threat, swiping 55 bases on 67 attempts (82.1% success rate) in 123 games. He also unlocked a new level as a slugger, at least against righties, posting an ISO over .200 and a SLG over .500 at both stops. Scouting reports and hard-hit metrics suggest Black's game power will be capped at around 15-20 homers in the majors, but he has a good enough eye at the plate that he should get the most of his fringe-average raw power. He is a plus runner with good instincts, but dynasty and redraft managers shouldn't expect anything close to the 55 steals he logged last season in the minors. Perhaps he could steal 30 bases if he gets everyday at-bats and meets expectations as an on-base threat (career .415 OBP in the minors). It's going to be tricky for Milwaukee to find a defensive home for Black, as he is a below-average defender everywhere and may just need to be hidden at first base and designated hitter. He could also sit against lefties, against whom his power and plate skills are less impressive. As of November, no third-base eligible Brewer had a higher NFBC ADP than Black, despite the fact he hasn't debuted yet. Read Past Outlooks
Tallies two hits in debut
Black went 2-for-4 and scored a run during Tuesday's win over Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Black was not in the Brewers' starting lineup Tuesday, but he ended up serving as the designated hitter for most of the game after Gary Sanchez (hamstring) was removed from the game in the first inning. Black doubled and singled in his first two MLB at-bats, and he was able to score his first run in the big leagues thanks to a fifth-inning Willy Adames homer. The 23-year-old infielder will likely see the field most often versus right-handed starters, though he showed he can hold his own against lefties Tuesday, as both of his hits Tuesday came off of southpaws.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could get early call-up in '24
Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said Tuesday that Black could be considered for an early-season call-up in 2024, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Black, the 33rd overall selection in the 2021 MLB First-Year Player Draft, posted a shiny .284/.417/.513 batting line with 18 home runs and 55 stolen bases in 123 games this season between Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville while making 97 starts at third base and 16 starts at first base. Those two positions represent significant areas of need for Milwaukee, pending any offseason moves, and Black sure looks like an intriguing internal option with considerable multi-category fantasy upside.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
After playing just 26 games in 2021, Black took a beating in 2022, as he played only 64 games at High-A due to a fractured scapula and his Arizona Fall League season was cut short due to a broken thumb. Along the way, Black showcased an elite eye at the plate and above-average speed on the bases. The lefty hitter saw the most time at second base and center field last season, and his below-average arm limits his defensive versatility. He hit .280 with an OBP north of .400 and 17 steals on 24 attempts across 81 games at High-A and the AFL, but his line-drive swing produced just five home runs. Black turns 23 in July and will be making his Double-A debut this season, so he needs to either get good enough in the field to play every day as a Kolten Wong caliber hitter who sits against some lefties, or he needs to adjust his launch angle (48.7 GB%) to access 20-homer power.
