2023 Fantasy Outlook
Williams was limited to just 17 games during the 2021-22 campaign after undergoing surgery on his left wrist, but he bounced back last season by playing all 82 games for the first time in his career. He served mainly as a starter early in the year but came off the bench in 16 of his final 23 appearances as the Bulls shifted to a smaller starting lineup. His production remained relatively consistent as a reserve, and his overall numbers represented one of the best seasons of his career. Despite shooting a career-low 46.4 percent from the floor, Williams averaged a career-best 10.2 points along with 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 combined steals-plus-blocks in 28.3 minutes per game. The 21-year-old will have increased competition for playing time in the frontcourt during the 2023-24 campaign after the Bulls added Torrey Craig during the offseason. It's unclear whether Williams will return to the starting lineup once the regular season begins. However, he proved last season that he can maintain consistent production regardless of whether he has a starting role. Williams has a relatively high floor, and even if he sees a slight decrease in minutes, he's a decent season-long option with some upside, though he's better suited for deep leagues. Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Williams was born Aug. 26, 2001 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is the son of Janie and Eddie Williams. He has one older brother, Kobie, and both of his parents played basketball at Johnson C. Smith University. One of Williams' first jobs was delivering flowers for his mom's shop. Williams attended West Charlotte High School, where he was a four-year starter. During his junior season, he averaged 20.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.8 steals and was rated a consensus top-50 prospect in his class. He committed to playing college basketball at Florida State before his senior year of high school. As a senior, he averaged 22.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.8 blocks and led the team to the 4A State Championship game. Williams also played in the Jordan Brand Classic. During his first season at Florida State (2019-20), he was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team and was also named the Sixth Man of the Year. Williams studied Sport Management at FSU. After his freshman season, Williams declared for the NBA Draft. Williams came off the bench for all 29 games he appeared in during his first and only season with Florida State, but his raw potential was evident as he shot up draft boards in the offseason. Despite only averaging 22.5 minutes per contest, the 6-foot-8 power forward scored 9.2 points per game, including one three-pointer made per contest. He came on strongest in the last month of the season, putting up 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds over the team's last 10 games. Williams was also a more-than-capable defender, averaging a steal and a blocked shot per contest. He was 17th in the ACC in defensive rating and fifth in the conference in block rate. When it was all said and done, Williams made the 2019-20 ACC All-Freshman team and was awarded ACC Sixth Man of the Year honors. There wasn't an NCAA Tournament in 2020, but Florida State finished the year ranked No. 4 in the country in the final AP poll and would have been firmly in contention for a No. 1 seed.

Out For Season
February 23, 2024
The Bulls announced Friday that Williams will undergo left foot surgery and will be out for the remainder of the season.
ANALYSIS
Williams hasn't played since Jan. 25 due to the foot injury, which was initially diagnosed as an acute bone edema. However, recent imaging revealed that Williams' injury was a stress reaction, and surgery was deemed necessary to address it. With Williams and Zach LaVine (foot) both shut down for the season, Ayo Dosunmu and Alex Caruso should be locked into starting roles the rest of the way, while young forwards Julian Phillips and Dalen Terry could also gain some stability in the rotation. Williams will end the 2023-24 campaign with averages of 10.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 three-pointers in 27.3 minutes per game across 43 appearances.

December 20, 2023
Williams has elevated his play for the Bulls in recent games, and coach Billy Donovan is hoping to see more consistency going forward, K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
"He's obviously had some great moments. I think it all starts with the force he plays with," Donovan said. "And there's so much he can get into the game on a nightly basis whether he's making or missing shots." Williams turned it on to begin December, posting averages of 13.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.1 blocks, 0.9 steals and 2.0 three-pointers in his last eight games. With Zach LaVine still sidelined with a foot issue, Williams will continue to have more opportunities on the offensive end.

2020
Williams missed most of last year due to a sprained left wrist that required surgery in late October. He played the first five games of the year and then didn't see the court again until March 21. During his brief regular season run and the Bulls' foray into the playoffs - a first-round loss to the Bucks - Williams played 30-plus minutes in only nine games, with four occurring in the postseason. In his 22 total appearances, the sophomore averaged 9.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 1.1 combined steals-plus-blocks in 26.1 minutes. He saw sparse usage (12.3%), but he shot an impressive 51.0 percent from the field and hit 1.0 three per game at 44.0 percent. Williams should remain in a catch-and-shoot offensive role this season - Lonzo Ball, Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic dominate the offense - but he'll start at power forward and has a clear path to 30-35 minutes per game as a 3-and-D specialist in the frontcourt. As a rookie, he ranked 185th in per-game fantasy production over 27.9 minutes per game. There's reason to consider him with a flier in standard drafts when factoring in Williams' expected minutes increase and additional development.
Williams was a surprise selection at No. 4 in the 2020 NBA Draft, but he put together a nice rookie season as one of the youngest players in the league. The forward started all 71 games he appeared in and averaged 9.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.5 combined steals-plus-blocks in 27.9 minutes. He was also relatively efficient with shooting splits of 48/39/73. That resulted in Williams ranking 185th in fantasy on a per-game basis, but his availability led to him ranking 113th in total production. He's farther along defensively than offensively, where he often relies on other players to put him in position to score, and he leans heavily on mid-range jumpers. Williams was given a long leash in 2021 Summer League, where he averaged 21.0 points on 19.3 shots per game. However, he wasn't especially efficient (37.9 FG%) and committed nearly twice as many turnovers than assists. Heading into 2021-22, the 20-year-old will likely remain in a low-usage offensive role, especially given the additions of Lonzo Ball and DeMar DeRozan. It's conceivable that he'll be worth a late-round flier in standard fantasy leagues, but a lot would have to break right for it to be worth rostering him over the course of a season. As it stands, he appears to just be a role player on a competitive team.
Many didn't expect Williams going No. 4 in the draft, but nevertheless, he will now join a young and rebuilding Chicago squad. Williams has tremendous upside despite his mediocre averages with Florida State last season. The 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward averaged 9.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks while shooting 45.9 percent from the floor and 83.8 percent at the charity stripe with the Seminoles. Assuming Otto Porter remains the starting small forward and Lauri Markkanen the power forward, Williams will presumably come in off the bench and battle for minutes with veteran Thaddeus Young. As a rookie, we shouldn't expect Williams to be a great fantasy contributor, limiting his fantasy relevance exclusively to deep formats.
