Athan Kaliakmanis was recently named Rutgers' starting quarterback. The announcement means Wimsatt would have to serve as a backup if he stays enrolled there. Instead, Wimsatt will use the transfer portal to see if a starting opportunity is available elsewhere.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
As the highest-rated quarterback recruit in school history, it is only a matter of time before Wimsatt officially steps in as Rutgers' starting quarterback this season. The four-star out of Kentucky chose to graduate high school a year early to join the Scarlet Knights’ program last September. Outside of the team’s bowl-game loss, Wimsatt did not see significant playing time as a freshman while still getting acclimated to the college game. The 6-foot-3 signal-caller produced understandably uneven results during this small sample size of 40 snaps over 4 games, but his promising potential as a dual-threat quarterback should make him a perfect fit for coordinator Sean Gleeson’s frenetic offense. So, while Wimsatt may still have to prove himself over returning two-year starter Noah Vedral, it should not be long before the team’s quarterback of the future is the one facing down the difficult slate of Big Ten East opponents.
