Facing assault charges in Argentina

Cabrera was extradited from Brazil to his native country of Argentina on Tuesday while he faces assault charges from three former partners, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
The 51-year-old hasn't been a regular on the PGA Tour for more than a half decade, but his victories at the U.S. Open (in 2007) and Masters (in 2009) had made him eligible to compete at both tournaments. Cabrera last appeared on the Tour at the 2019 Masters Tournament, and his ongoing legal issues ensure that his absence from competition will continue at the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines later this month.

2014 was a largely disappointing season for Cabrera until he managed to pull off a victory at the Greenbrier Classic. Cabrera is known for his play at the majors, but last year he flipped the script and played well outside the majors, but not at the majors. Cabrera seems capable of doing one or the other, but not both and as such, his upside is limited. He's too much of a risk in salary cap leagues, even at this price. In draft leagues his value is a bit higher because of his play at the majors. He should go near the 4th round in draft leagues.
One of these years Cabrera is bound to slow down, but who's going to bet against him at this point? Cabrera has made a career out of showing up at the right time, mainly at the Masters, and he'll likely be up to his old tricks again in 2014. The only problem with that is, if he happens to have a poor week at Augusta, his numbers are likely to be shot. With that in mind, he's not a good option for salary cap leagues. In draft leagues he should go in the 40-50 range, if for no other reason than he'll be valuable during the majors.
Cabrera is exempt this season because of his 2009 Masters win, and although his better days are behind him, he'll still have plenty of chances to earn big checks this season. If he hits just once, it will justify his selection. Because of his form last season he's not a must-have, but he should be considered in salary cap leagues. In draft leagues, he might be worth a look because of his exempt status at the majors.
Cabrera's better days are likely a thing of the past. While he's certainly capable of playing at an extremely high level for weeks at a time, don't expect him to repeat his Masters or U.S. Open performances this season. Cabrera has never played much on the PGA TOUR, in fact, his 19 events in 2010 were a career high. Cabrera will turn 42 this year; don't expect much, if any, improvement on his 2009 numbers. Cabrera is long off the tee, ranking in the top 10 the last few seasons, but his performance in the other three core stats categories leaves a lot to be desired.
Cabrera had a fine 2009 season, capturing his second major championship at the Masters, but he'll need another big win in 2010 to justify a high draft selection. Cabrera earned more than $2.6 million in only 17 tournaments last season, but most of that came in three events. Cabrera is a very good golfer -- and he definitely plays like a top pro when he's on his game -- but he needs to become a consistently-higher finisher even in the events where he is not playing his best. Cabrera has the potential to contend at a major or two this year, but fantasy owners will need him to play well throughout the season if they hope to get full value out of his selection. Cabrera, who ranked 42nd at the end of 2008, finished at 25th in the final 2009 Official World Golf Rankings.
Once was a great sleeper during every major. Not the case anymore. Cabrera is just not productive on the PGA Tour anymore.
